Seaside Beauty in Amchit, Lebanon
It doesn’t take long to drive outside of Lebanon’s capital city to find some beautiful places. Amchit (also spelled Amsheet) is an area north of Lebanon, a seaside town with mostly Maronite Christians residing there.
As you drive through the area, which is very close to the famous ancient fishing city of Byblos, you see many resorts, hotels and restaurants. Though some of them are filled with people – as was Chez Zakhia, where we picked out our own fish on ice upon entrance – many of them are empty and abandoned. Tourism has taken a major hit in Lebanon as instability and violence has increased in the country.
